CHICAGO, Ill.—The University of Evansville volleyball team picked up its first win of the season Friday morning with a 3-1 win over Sam Houston State in the first game of the Loyola Invitational at the Gentile Center.
The Aces picked up wins in the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-21, before putting away the Bearkats with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. SHSU took the third set, 25-21. The Bearkats out hit the Aces as a team hit .173 to .156, but the Aces posted 51 kills en route to the victory.
Sally Kulupka paced the Aces hitting .419 with 16 kills.
Kerry Sylvester also had double-digit kills with 11 while
Emily Wandersee added nine. Sylvester and freshman
Kaisi Nixon led the team with three block assists each while Nixon posted three service aces.
Katie Kincaid tallied 20 assists and
Ellen Sawin added 14.
The Aces (1-4) will match up with Bucknell University at 5 p.m. this evening as they continue action at the Loyola Invitational.
