The University of Evansville built a 3-0 lead, then held off a second half Butler rally Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated with a 3-2 victory in front of 822 fans at Black Beauty Field.

Coach Mike Jacobs' squad is 3-0 for the first time since 2002, and the Aces will be going for their first 4-0 start since 1996 when they host North Florida Friday in the first round of the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic.

Sophomore Tom Irvin started the scoring when Tyler Crawford set him up 10 yards out from the right side.  It was Irvin's first goal since 2006.  He sat out the entire 2007 season after suffering a foot injury.  Classmate Mike Luttrull tallied the next two goals, at 40:59 on a header with assists from Richard Menjivar and Tad Kreamalmeyer, and at 62:52 on assists from Dan Gibson and Irvin.  It was the second straight year in which Luttrull scored two goals against Butler, and the second straight year in which his goal was the game-winner.

The Aces needed all three because Butler mounted a second half rally, starting at 73:54 when Connor Burt tapped in a long throw-in from Kyle VondenBenken.  Then at 77:00, Ben Sippola's blast from 16 yards eluded Evansville goalkeeper Alec Dufty to make it a 3-2 game.  Evansville held tight for the final 13 minutes, however, to give the 3-1-0 Bulldogs their first loss of the season.

Butler ended up with an 18-16 advantage in shots, with eight on goal by the Bulldogs and five on goal by the Aces. The match included five yellow cards and a red to Dufty in the final seconds of the match.  He will sit out Friday's game against North Florida.
