The Wichita State Shockers have awakened just in time for Sunday's visit from the University of Evansville Purple Aces. The Shockers lost their first six Missouri Valley Conference games, but they're on a two-game winning streak with victories over Creighton and Illinois State going into Sunday's 2:05 game. You can watch live on AcesTV.

THE TOP 10 THINGS TO KNOW: UE AT WICHITA STATE JAN. 25

1. Sunday’s game is the 29th between the two schools in a series that began when Evansville joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 1994. The Shockers have a 16-12 edge. They’ve won 10 of the last 11 against the Aces, although one of Evansville’s three MVC wins last season came against Wichita State.

2. Evansville is 4-10 at Wichita. The victories came in 1995-96, 1996-97, 1998-99 and 2000-01. The Shockers have won their last seven home games against UE.

3. Evansville is 1-2 in MVC road games this season. The last time the Aces won two or more road games in the league was 2005-06, at Drake and Indiana State.

4. Shy Ely and Jason Holsinger scored in double figures against Wichita State in both games last season. Ely led all players with 18 points, including 12-for-12 free throw shooting, in the Aces’ 64-56 win at Roberts Stadium. He had 16 in the loss at Wichita. Holsinger scored 14 in the win and 10 in the loss. Nate Garner contributed 11 in the win.

5. Shy Ely continues to lead the MVC in scoring at 17.3. He scored 26 of the team’s 57 points in Tuesday’s loss to Creighton. Ely’s 139 points in MVC games are 61 more than his closest teammate.

6. Jason Holsinger on Tuesday moved past his head coach, Marty Simmons, and into 22nd place in career scoring at UE with 1,268 points. (Of course, Simmons scored all of his 1,265 points in just two seasons)

7. Despite three losses in the last four games, the 12-6 Aces have their best 18-game record since 1999-2000. The 4-4 league record is their best at this point in the season since 2002-03.

8. With Jason Holsinger at 1,268 points and Shy Ely at 1,148, this is the first time Evansville has had two players on the same team with at least 1100 points since Andy Elkins and Reed Jackson in 1994-95. The Aces had three 1,000 point scorers in 2006-07, but only Matt Webster (1,451) topped 1100. Bradley Strickland (1,068) and Kyle Anslinger (1,045) were the others.

9. Freshman Kaylon Williams has more steals (31) in 18 games than any UE player had all of last season. He ranks second in the MVC in assists (4.7) and fourth in steals (1.7).

10. The Aces are averaging 60.9 points against MVC teams, about 12 points less than they scored in non-conference games. They’ve hit only 20 three-pointers in 76 tries in the eight MVC games.
