The University of Evansville volleyball team wrapped up their spring season at the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Tournament this weekend. The Aces finished the day 3-1, beating University of Memphis, University of Tennessee-Martin, and Illinois Central. The Aces only loss was to Southeast Missouri State after failing to close out a late lead in game three.
The Aces began their spring season with an alumni match on March 28th at the Carson Center. With over 20 alumni coming back to participate, the event was a great success.
Head coach
Mike Swan was ecstatic with the turnout, “It’s great to have that kind of support and sense of family between our former and current players.”
In early April, the team traveled to Lipscomb University, the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions. Despite getting off to a shaky start, the Aces beat both Lipscomb and Tennessee State in three games.
New assistant coach
Tom Mendoza was impressed after seeing the team play for the first time, “It is great to see the amount of fight that our team has. They are fun to watch.”
Middle hitter
Rachel Robinson is ready for her senior season to get started, “We had a good season last year, but we had a young team and we are getting better every day, and I can’t wait for next season.”
The Aces will start their 2009 Season at the Memphis Tournament on August 28th and 29th and will have their home opener on September 14th against University of Tennessee-Martin.
