University of Evansville senior-to-be swimmer
Ady Sekely (Yavne, Israel/Katzir Rehovot) will represent her home country of Israel this July in the 18th Maccabiah Games as a member of the Israeli National Triathlon Team.
Sekely qualified for the Israeli National Team this past weekend and will compete in the Maccabiah Games’ sprint triathlon on July 17 around the sea of Galilee in Israel. The sprint triathlon will consist of a 750-meter swim, a 20,000-meter bike ride, and a 5,000-meter run. The Maccabiah Games will bring together over 7,000 Jewish athletes from over 60 countries to compete in what is the world’s third-largest international sporting event. The Maccabiah Games, sometimes referred to as the “Jewish Olympics,” are held every four years in Israel and attract the top Jewish athletes from around the world. The Games will run from July 13 through July 23 in various cities throughout Israel.
“I am extremely proud of Ady for qualifying for the Maccabiah Games,” said UE swim coach
Rickey Perkins. “She has worked very hard for this opportunity to represent her country, and she will do a great job in the Games.”
Sekely has been one of UE’s top butterfly and IM swimmers in the pool over the last three years for Perkins’ Purple Aces. She posted UE’s top time in the 200 fly this past year, while also owning the team’s best 400 IM time in 2008. Sekely placed ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference in the 200 fly this past February at the State Farm MVC Swimming and Diving Championships, and has also excelled in the classroom, earning a pair of MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honors.
