Sophomore Ellen Sawin has been named this week’s University of Evansville Student-Athlete of the Week after a stellar performance at the Memphis Invitational.
In the three games at the Memphis tournament, Sawin tabbed 149 assists for an 11.46 average. The setter also recorded four service aces and five blocks over the weekend. One of Sawin’s best performances came against Arkansas State where the New Lenox, Illinois, native set a new career-high 57 assists and 14 digs.
Sawin helped the Lady Aces start off with a 2-1 record this season after the team beat Memphis 3-1 and Southeast Missouri State 3-1 to take second at the invitational.
The Purple Aces travel to Cincinnati this weekend for a special match-up on Friday when it will be Sawin versus Sawin at 4 p.m. Ellen Sawin will get to face her sister, Emily, when Evansville plays College of Charleston in the Bearcats Invitational. The Lady Aces will then play Cincinnati and Youngstown State on Saturday.
