Volleyball Opens Home Schedule Versus Tennessee-Martin

The University of Evansville volleyball team opens its home schedule Monday night when the Aces face the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin at 7:00 p.m. at Carson Center.

This will be the only non-conference home match for the Aces during the 2009 season who enter the match with an overall record of 5-4 after going 1-2 at Wright State’s Raider Challenge over the weekend.

“I think they have good athletes,” said Evansville head coach Mike Swan. “Darrin McClure has been changing their mentality of always playing hard but losing. They have already had a big win over Indiana earlier this season, which is huge for their program. I’m hoping we can take advantage of playing at home and have a big crowd supporting us.

“I think it will be a good test for us. They have some size and are physical. It will be a good tune-up for us prior to opening the conference season on Friday.”

Outside hitter Brooke Maher has consistently led the team, as she has recorded a team-high 105 kills this season. Getting the offense started for UE, setter Ellen Sawin has tabbed 404 assists.

Defensively, Julie Sylvester leads the team with 127 digs while April Lubrecht is right behind with one less. Emily Wandersee holds the team high in blocks with 22, including 19 block assists, and Rachel Robinson follows with 18 total blocks.

The Skyhawks come to Carson Center after a six-day break in competition and brings a 5-3 record.

Britany Wilburn lead the team in kills with 70 and blocks with 28. Setter Jenna Miller has posted 249 assists while Kasey Elswick has tallied 120 digs this season.
