CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The number one ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels broke open a close match in the second half Sunday afternoon and beat the University of Evansville 4-0 in the final round of the Carolina Nike Classic.

The 2-0-1 Tar Heels edged out Northern Illinois on goal differential to win the classic.  Evansville, which finished third, is 1-2-0 going into Friday's match at Peoria, Ill. against Xavier.

UNC's Cameron Brown tallied the only goal of the first half at 8:52 with a 30-yard line drive that ducked inside the near post and past the reach of Evansville goalkeeper Phil Boerger.  Enzo Martinez put the Heels up 2-0 at 57:40 when he gathered up a loose ball and scored following Michael Farfan's deflected shot in front of the goal.  Carolina's third goal came at 66:50 when Farfan connected from the 18 over Boerger's head, and Brown finished the scoring in the 85th minute with a bicycle kick from 16 yards out.

Carolina finished with 18 shots, including eight on goal against Boerger, while the Aces took four shots.  The Tar Heels kept Evansville's attacking players in check, allowing just one shot by Mike Luttrull and none from UE's other forwards.  Defender Justin Sass had Evansville's only shot on goal.  Sass and Tad Kreamalmeyer, who scored twice and assisted on UE's third goal in Friday's win over UNC Greensboro, were chosen for the all-classic team.

"It was very disappointing for our guys not to meet the challenge of playing the number one team," Coach #Mike Jacobs said afterward, "but we're three games into the season, and we've played well in two of the three.  We had a good scoring chance that we didn't take advantage of.  Then I felt like we were settled after their first goal, but it's hard to play catch-up with a team like North Carolina.  We know the things we have to work on going forward."
