After a strong performance at the Bearcats Invitational in Cincinnati, University of Evansville volleyball player Brooke Maher has been selected as UE’s Student-Athlete of the Week.

“I think Brooke has had a great preseason run,” said Evansville head coach Mike Swan. “She does a great job on the court and plays with great composure and confidence. It’s great to have her performances in the matches, especially for her just being a sophomore.”

Leading the team with 46 kills and a .234 hitting percentage, Maher helped the Purple Aces to a 2-1 record in Cincinnati's Bearcats Invitational and a 4-2 record overall. Earning her second all-tournament honor in as many weekends, the sophomore also posted 36 total digs in three games.

Against College of Charleston, Maher tabbed herself a double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs while hitting .347 in the 3-1 win. Maher then outdid herself on Saturday versus Youngstown State when she broke her career high in kills with 24 in addition to her fifth double-double of the season with 13 digs.

Maher now has 14 double-doubles in her two-year career at UE. The Mason, Ohio, native also leads the team this season with 3.32 kills per set and is second in digs per set with a 3.48 average.

UE returns to action on Friday, September 11 to face Wright State in its Raiders Challenge in Dayton, Ohio. Saturday features matches against Kent State and St. Peter’s for the Lady Aces.
