The University of Evansville swimming and diving team kicks off the 2010-11 season Sunday as they travel to Fishers, Ind., to compete in the Butler Invitational. Hosted by the Butler Bulldogs, the tournament features a five-team pool, including Butler, UE, IUPUI, Valparaiso and St. Louis University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
“We’re ready to start competing,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “Our preseason practices have been great so far. There’s a sense of urgency with our training that I haven’t seen before, which is great.
“Everybody has just been working tremendously hard,” added Perkins. “It’s fun to be a part of a team that is working so hard and we’re excited to see what we can do on Sunday.”
Last weekend, seven Aces competed in the Saluki Open Water 5K in Carbondale, Illinois. Senior Christina Schmidgall was the highest placing Ace for the women, finishing seventh out of 15 with a final time of 1:01:28.55. Freshman Ryan Metzger led the men’s side with a final time of 1:01:14.79, taking a seventh place finish out of 11 men competing.
