With the Aces’ first Missouri Valley Conference win behind them, now it’s time to take on the MVC’s highest ranked team.  The 11th ranked (NSCAA, Soccer Times) Bluejays of Creighton come into McCutchan Stadium Saturday for the 24th meeting between the two teams.  Kickoff is at 7:30 CDT, following the women's match against Illinois State, and it can be heard on 91.5 WUEV-FM  http://www.wuev.evansville.edu

The Bluejays have a 19-3-1 advantage in the series, but the most recent match between the two resulted in a 1-1 draw at Evansville on October 17 of last year. Dion Acoff scored the Jays’ goal in the 24th minute, and Dan Gibson scored for UE at 36:25.  Evansville had the advantage in shots, 18-14.

The Aces have been limited to one goal or less in each of their last seven matches, but one was the right number in Wednesday’s 1-0 MVC win over SIU Edwardsville, thanks to Robby Lynch’s header in the 53rd minute.  UE’s balanced scoring this season is led by Mike Luttrull with five goals, and Lynch and Tad Kreamalmeyer with three each.  Thirteen players have accounted for Evansville’s 23 goals.

Creighton picked up its biggest win of the season Oct. 5 with a 3-1 decision over #5 Tulsa, but then lost at home last Saturday to unranked Indiana, 3-2.  Veteran Ethan Finley leads the Bluejays in scoring with nine of the team’s 21 goals. Creighton finished a disappointing 7-5-5 last year, but quickly climbed back into the national rankings in September under first-year coach Jamie Clark by winning its first four matches.

Team captain and central defender Justin Sass underwent surgery on his ankle recently, and will not play again this season, according to coach Mike Jacobs.  He is expected to receive redshirt status and have two years of eligibility remaining.  Sass played in only three matches after suffering the injury in August.
