CARBONDALE, Ill.—The University of Evansville women’s swimming team wrapped up day one of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships with multiple highlights and a new school record.
“I think we were nervous earlier today in the prelims,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “We bounced back, though, and did an awesome job tonight. I’m really happy with how resilient we were and just had awesome swims.”
The 200 free relay team of Michea Reinitz, Alex Howard, Anna Luecke and Hannah Quast set the school record at 1:36.53, which squeaked by the previous record of 1:36.92 set in the 2001-02 season.
Reinitz continued to have a strong night, as she placed fourth in the 50 free with a time of 23.98 while Quast followed with an eighth place finish at 24.67.
Christina Schmidgall and Alex Howard both finished first in the consolations, as both finished one spot outside of the top eight. Schmidgall took ninth in the 500 free with a 5:10.96 while Alex Howard placed ninth in the 200 IM at 2:10.01. Kassandra Beseau and Jill Enge followed right behind Howard in the 200 IM with a 10th and 11th place finish, respectively.
The Aces enter day two of the championships in fourth place with 123 points. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. on Friday.
