CARBONDALE, Ill.—The University of Evansville women’s swimming and diving team closed out the 2009-10 season on Saturday at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships at Southern Illinois as the Purple Aces took fourth in the league championships.

“This is probably one of the best finishes we have had in four year,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “We had more points than last year, so that’s incredible. I think we had more second swims than we have ever had before. I’m very proud of the ladies on this team. They fought and were warriors. Early in the year they made a commitment to see how good they could be, and everyday they came in and proved that. It just showed that they wanted to be a part of this team.”

Junior Christina Schmidgall finished ninth in the 1650 free. Alex Howard, Kassandra Beseau and Diane Threlkeld placed ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 200 back. Sophomore Hannah Quast took eighth in the 100 free while freshman Michea Reinitz ranked seventh in the 200 fly. Freshman Sadie Wells finished fifth in the three-meter diving board.

Multiple Lady Aces also took postseason MVC honors, as Reinitz led the way with a first-team all-conference selection. Jill Enge, Phoebe Hodina, Howard, Quast and Wells all earned honorable mention.
