The University of Evansville women's swimming and diving team is ranked second best nationally among the Division I Scholar All-America Teams, as voted on by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. As a team, the Aces compiled a 3.59 GPA, earning the number two spot behind Gardener Webb University.
The men’s team compiled a 3.123 GPA, which also earned recognition by the CSCAA. The men’s team was ranked 31st out of all Division I swim programs in the nation.
“Each day I am amazed that I get the opportunity to work with such amazing student-athletes,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “They do a splendid job representing our program, the athletics department and the University of Evansville year after year.”
The honors come as no surprise, given the academic success of UE’s 2009-10 swim and dive program. Last year’s women's squad included nine Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes and the men's squad included two Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team members. The women’s team collected a total of 27 post-season MVC academic honors. Returners Colin Gray and Christina Schmidgall were also chosen for their respective ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams.
