EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Evansville's Michael Sainz shot 74 today in the final round of the Michigan State Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Course West to finish seventh in the field of 82 golfers with a 36-hole score of 149.
As a team, the Aces improved on their opening round score of 307 by one shot, but fell two places today to end up seventh out of 15 teams. Still, it was Evansville's eighth straight finish in the top half of a tournament, dating back to last season. The tourney was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but rain on Saturday shortened the event to 36.
The host Spartans took home the title with a score of 591, and MSU's James Ross and Chris Mory were co-medalists at 2-over-par 144.
