Shots were flying above, past, and into the goal Wednesday night, and 31 of the night's 37 attempts belonged to the University of Evansville. The end result was Evansville's third consecutive victory, a 4-1 triumph over the Belmont University Bruins at McCutchan Stadium.
Evansville's 31 shots were the second most in coach Mike Jacobs' four-plus years as head coach, and two-thirds came in the first half when the Aces (4-1-0) outshot the Bruins (2-3-0) 21-1. It was just 1-0 at the break thanks to Gavin Chura's second tally of the season off assists from Aaron Henkle and Jesse Sharp at the 41:43 mark. Evansville made it 2-0 in the 49th minute when defender Jarrett Robbins followed near misses by Sharp and Philip Manga to score his first of the year. Belmont countered at 57:57 when Nico Olsak lofted a shot from 30 yards, above the leaping Phil Boerger, to put the Bruins back in the match, but the Aces put the game away with Robby Lynch's header at 71:58 and Tad Kreamalmeyer's breakaway at 79:23.
Seven Aces put up three shots or more, led by Kreamalmeyer's four total shots and three on goal. Sharp, Lynch and Mike Luttrull each put two on goal.
The Aces are back home Friday for a 7:30 match against Xavier, preceded by the women's match against Xavier at 5:00.
