The University of Evansville volleyball team will travel to Troy, Ala., to compete in the Troy Spiketacular this weekend. The Aces will face McNeese State in their solo match on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. before taking on Western Illinois and host Troy University on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
The Aces bring a 2-1 record into the tournament after opening the season with a pair of sweeps over IUPUI anda Bowling Green before falling to Michigan State. The sweeps mark the first time in the program’s Division I history that the Aces have started the season with back-to-back 3-0 wins.
Senior Emily Wandersee leads the team with a .297 hitting percentage, recording 31 kills at the Michigan State Showcase this past weekend. Wandersee also posted a team-high 11 blocks. Junior Brooke Maher recorded 24 kills and 27 digs on the weekend. Both Wandersee and Maher were named to the All-Tournament team. Defensively, junior April Lubrecht leads the team, averaging 3.56 digs per set.
McNeese State opened the season with a 0-3 showing at the University of Texas Burnt Orange Classic. The Cowgirls are led by sophomores Priscill Massengale, who leads the team in kills with 27, and Taylor Bustamento, who holds a team-high .395 attack percentage.
Western Illinois comes to the Spiketacular with a 1-2 record, after dropping games to Southeast Missouri State and Bradley. As a team, the Leathernecks are hitting .189 while averaging 17.3 digs per set. Sophomore Katie Hosteng leads the team with a .390 attack percentage.
Host Troy University enters the weekend with a 1-3 record after dropping a 3-1 decision with Samford on Wednesday. Troy’s offense is led by sophomore middle hitter Devin Von Pingel, who currently holds a 2.71 attack percentage.
