ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville freshman hitter Ashley Ring garnered this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors.
Ring helped the Purple Aces to a 1-1 week, including the first victory over Wichita State for Evansville since the 2001 season. She led the squad with 14 blocks while ranking second on the team with 22 kills.
The Madison, Wisc. native began the weekend with a 14-kill performance in a win over Wichita State where she also contributed defensively with five blocks.
She followed that up with the top defensive performance of her career notching a career-best nine blocks to go along with nine kills against Missouri State. Her efficiency in both games was shown by her .263 hitting percentage for the weekend, tops amongst the Aces.
The honor is the first weekly award for the UE volleyball team this season.
