EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fresh off of a 1-1 homestand, the University of Evansville women’s volleyball team is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Drake on Friday before making the trek to Omaha, Neb. to face off against Creighton on Saturday.

Last Friday, Evansville halted an eight-match losing streak, taking a five set win over Wichita State.  Head coach Mike Swan was previously 0-16 against the Shockers before guiding UE to the victory.

Ashley Ring garnered this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors. She led the squad with 14 blocks while ranking second on the team with 22 kills.

The Madison, Wisc. native began the weekend with a 14-kill performance in a win over Wichita State where she also contributed defensively with five blocks.  She finished with nine kills and a career-high nine blocks against Missouri State on Saturday.

Drake has been mired in a slump of its own lately, as they have fallen in five of the last six matches.  They are 7-16 overall and 3-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Last month in Evansville, the Bulldogs took 3-2 win over the Aces as Whitney Westrum led all players with 16 kills while notching 14 digs.

On Saturday, UE will take on Creighton.  The Bluejays are 11-10 and 6-3 in the MVC following a 1-1 weekend where they defeated Bradley before falling to Northern Iowa.

Heather Thorson led Creighton to a 3-0 sweep of the Aces at the Carson Center in September.  The Bluejays cruised to a 25-12 win in the first set before holding on for identical 25-22 wins in the final two games.

Beginning next weekend, UE will return home for five of its last seven matches.  The first will take place on October 28 when Southern Illinois comes to town.
