EVANSVILLE, Ind – The University of Evansville women’s swimming and diving team fell to Southern Illinois in today’s dual meet. The Salukis slipped by the Aces with a final score of 143. Evansville fell just short of SIU with a team score of 100.

Rickey Perkins. We had a lot of great scores across the board and ended with some really fast times."
In her first 1000-yard freestyle of her collegiate career, freshman
Michelle Tipton set a new UE record, touching in at a quick 10:24.55. Her second place time beat the previous record of 10:28.86 set by former UE swimmer Christina Schmidgall in the 2008-09 season. Tipton also notched a second place finishin the 500-free.
Senior
Alex Howard and freshman
Mackenzie Powell also highlighted the meet with individual first place finishes. Howard won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74 while Powell took the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in at 2:30.26. Both swimmers also claimed a second place time, Howard in the 200-yard backstroke and Powell in the 200-yard IM.

Samantha Montgomery closed out the meet with a top time to represent the Ace’ third first place finish of the day.
Freshman
Alexandria Moore also grabbed a second place finish, swimming the 200-free in 1:59.05. Junior Jill Enge swam a personal-best time in the 100-free, touching in at 55.22 to seal second place.
For the divers, senior
Ashley Altmeyer posted the Aces’ highest score on the 1-meter boards, taking third place with a score of 202.38. Junior
Sadie Wells also took third on the 3-meter with a score of 229.80.
"I'm really proud of the way we performed today," added Perkins. "Now we just have to continue to chase excellence."
The men’s squad will travel to Carbondale, Ill., to take on the Salukis and Miami (Ohio) tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Both teams will then return to action on October 15, traveling to Normal, Ill., or a dual meet with Illinois State.
