EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville volleyball coach Mike Swan has announced the signing of Stephanie Cerino and Lauren Robertson to National Letters of Intent to begin playing for the Aces in 2012.

“We are really excited about these two student-athletes joining our program," Swan said.  "They have had stellar careers at the high school and club level, we expect them to be key contributors to our success over the next four years.”

Brentwood, Tenn. native Stephanie Cerino is currently a right-side hitter at Brentwood High School.  Last year, she helped lead her squad to the Division I AAA State Championship with a record of 49-8.  She was named MVP of the district tournament while garnering 1st Team All District honors.

She has also helped out her squads at the club level, with her teams going a combined 62-4 over the last four years, including a 17-1 mark with the Alliance Volleyball Club in 2011.

“Steph is a dynamic athlete who is already touching over ten feet.  We are thrilled to have a left-handed attacker on our squad and think she will be something special to watch.”

Lauren Robertson comes to Evansville from Wilmington, Ill. and has played for Joliet Catholic Academy.  In her first two years there, she was a teammate of current Ace Jenn Murphy.

Robertson, a 5-9 setter and right-side hitter, led Joliet to a 32-7 record last year, tallying 286 service points and 47 aces.  She was a playoff call-up for Joliet’s two Class 3A state volleyball championships in 2008 and 2009.  Murphy was the starting setter for both championship teams.

“Lauren has all the qualities we look for in a setter…successful, quick, athletic, competitive, and smart," Swan added.  "We really liked the way she ran her club team at the national tournament last summer and the fact that she can be an attacker as well is impressive.”

“She was the starting setter at one of Illinois’ premier high school teams so she knows how to win and lead.”
