Evansville will have one more shot at the Red Raiders tomorrow as the Aces wrap up the tournament with a single game against Texas Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 CST.
Game 1: Evansville 16, Alcorn State 3
Junior Amy Gaertner was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run to lead UE to a 16-3 victory over Alcorn State in the first game of the day.
Evansville scored in all but two innings, including a six-run seventh inning to cap off the win. As a team, the Aces put up a season-high 19 hits on the board. Freshman Niki Rahming was just a home run away from hitting a cycle at the plate. Junior Allison Aguilera and freshman Taylor Perry each added doubles to the Aces’ hit total while freshman Katie Sears recorded her second triple of the season. Sears also posted two stolen bases for Evansville.
Junior Maggie Little got the win on the mound, improving her record to 1-3 on the season. Little scattered six hits and three runs over 4.1 innings while fanning three Alcorn State batters. Freshman Emily Morris delivered 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to close the game for the Aces.
Game 2: Evansville 1, No. 19 Texas Tech 5
Evansville was able to score first in game two, putting up one run in the top of the third inning. Freshman Kacey Rogers started the inning with a leadoff single to left field before scoring on a single by sophomore Brianna Villanueva.
The Aces didn’t keep the lead for long, though, as the Red Raiders managed to score five runs off six hits in the bottom of the third. A bases-loaded walk gave Texas Tech their first run of the game before Sandy James belted a grand slam to score the other four.
The four-run lead was all the Red Raiders would need to secure the win, as pitcher Brittany Talley didn’t allow any hits to the Aces over the last four innings.
Freshman Samantha Meyer (0-2) took the loss on the mound for the Aces. Freshman Taylor Perry threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up four hits and stiking out one as she closed out the game.
