Game 1: UE 3 UNC-Greensboro 9
The Aces used a two-run first inning to take an early lead in the first game of the day. Leadoff batter freshman Katie Sears walked to start the game before going on to steal two bases and advance on a wild pitch to count for the Aces’ first run. Senior Kelci Alsip was also put on base by a walk and went on to score as a result of sophomore Alicia Betancur getting caught in a rundown between first and second base.
The Spartans quickly answered in the bottom of the first inning, however, using four hits off UE starter Kendall Kautz (0-3) to bring in four runs.
UNCG added to their lead in the second, third and sixth inning, using a total of 14 hits throughout the game to score their nine runs.
The Aces scored their third run in the top of the fifth inning when a bases-loaded walk gave senior Jen Stahlhut the free pass home.
Junior Amy Gaertner led the offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Sears and Alsip combined to give UE three stolen bases in the loss.
Game 2: UE 1 Georgia Tech 18 (5 innings)
A dominant Georgia Tech offense exploded for 18 hits to take the win in the Aces’ night cap, winning by a score of 18-1 in five innings.
Georgia Tech, who was previously ranked No. 22 in the NFCA/USA Today Coaches Poll, managed six hits off each of the Aces’ three pitchers, scoring at least one run in every inning.
Georgia Tech’s Lindsey Anderson delivered a one-hit performance in the circle to seal the win for the Yellow Jackets.
The Aces suffered defensively, committing four errors and allowing five Georgia Tech runs to cross the palte unearned.
