Box Score

PEORIA, Ill. – After freshman Cole Isom’s complete game shutout in the nightcap yesterday, senior Cody Fick played copycat, going the distance in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Bradley University at O’Brien Field. Fick (6-2) tossed all nine, allowing seven scattered hits, just two walks, and struck out seven to lead Evansville to a series win over the Braves. The Aces are now 22-15 overall and 3-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Bradley fell to 20-18 and 2-7 in the MVC.
It was a pitcher’s duel from start to finish, as eggs fittingly dominated the scoreboard in the Easter Sunday contest. With the score tied, 0-0, heading into the sixth, the Aces struck when sophomore Eric Stamets led off the inning with a bunt single. He stole second, his 22nd of the season, and scored on junior Trentt Copeland’s RBI single to left field.
Evansville scored a single run again in the top of the eighth when Stamets reached and advanced to second on a wild throw by third baseman Rob Elliott. With two outs, Fick helped his own cause with an RBI single to left to give UE a 2-0 lead.
Copeland, Fick, and sophomore Chris Pearson led the Aces offensively with two hits each.
John Nasshan (2-5) took the loss for Bradley, throwing seven and two thirds, giving up seven hits, two runs, one earned, and struck out five. Danny Gifford threw one and a third innings, allowing one hit and a walk for BU.
The Aces are back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Murray State. They continue MVC play next weekend, hosting Missouri State at Braun Stadium.
