LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. -- Four University of Evansville golfers shot between 76 and 79 Monday, leaving the Purple Aces in third place after one round of the 54-hole State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship at The Club at Porto Cima.
Most of the 45 golfers played one to four holes in the second round before tournament officials called the players off the course for the final time following two lightning delays. Play will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday, beginning with the remainder of the second round and concluding with the third round. Tournament favorite Wichita State was the first round leader at 303, followed by Drake (306) and Evansville (310). Michael Sainz led UE's five golfers with a 4-over-par 76 in round one, played in a steady rain for most of the 18 holes. The clubhouse leader is Drake's Cody Schweinefus, whose 3-under-par 69 was the only sub-par score of the first round.
