EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team suffered a sweep today at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium in day two of its three-game series against Bradley. Evansville dropped the first game 10-2 before the Braves posted a 4-1 victory in the series finale.

Senior Jen Stahlhut moved into sole possession of the third place UE record, hitting her 49th career home run in game one of the doubleheader. Stahlhut finished her last home games at UE going 3-for-7 at the plate.

The Aces (12-38, 6-18) will wrap up their regular season with a three-game series at Missouri State next weekend.

Game 1: UE 2, Bradley 10

The Aces carried the momentum of last night’s win into the first inning of game one, using three hits to take a 2-0 lead right off the bat.  Stahlhut led off the game with a single through the left side, and was able to advance to third on a wild pitch and a stolen base. Senior Kelci Alsip then delivered a single down the right field line, bringing in both Stahlhut and Gaertner, who had walked in her first at bat.

The Braves quickly answered back, putting up five runs in the top of the second. Bradley used three singles and took advantage of two Evansville throwing errors to bring home five runners, four of which scored as unearned runs.

Bradley padded their lead in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Katelyn Kegley blooped an infield single over second base to score two before a sacrifice fly by Jakie Roth brought Kate Singler home, giving the Braves the 8-2 lead.

Leadoff singles in the top of the seventh led to two more Bradley runs as the Braves went on to win game one 10-2.

Freshman Katie Sears was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs on five hits in her first collegiate start in the circle. Freshman Emily Morris was strong in the relief effort, posting a trio of three-up, three-down innings in five innings of work.

Game 2: UE 1, Bradley 4

Game two remained locked in a pitcher’s duel as the score stayed tied at zero through the first three innings. But Kegley broke open the game in the top of the fourth, blasting a three-run home run over centerfield to put the Braves up 3-0.

The Aces chipped away in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one run to cut Bradley’s lead to 3-1. Sophomore Alicia Betancur delivered a two-out pinch-hit single to score freshman Niki Rahming, who had reached base on a walk.

The Braves quickly responded in the top of the sixth, as Brittany Fairbairn tripled to right center before coming home on a sacrifice fly by Singler. The three-run lead would be all the Braves would need to take the nightcap and win the series with a final score of 4-1.

Freshman Taylor Perry (4-11) took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs on six hits in the complete game appearance.
