Box Score
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Sophomore Katie Klages tallied a team-high 15 digs, but a 30-dig performance by Candice Burke and an 11-kill effort by Michelle Burow helped No. 15 Northern Iowa take a 3-0 win over the Purple Aces volleyball team on Saturday evening.
Kaisi Nixon led UE (11-4, 1-1 MVC) with eight kills while Rachel TenHoor finished with six. One of the major difference tonight came in hitting percentage. After hitting .288 last night at Bradley, the Aces finished with a .094 against Northern Iowa (12-1, 2-0 MVC).
Set one saw Evansville hang tough with the Panthers. The score was tied six times in the early going before UE jumped out to an 8-6 advantage following a Lauren Seyller kill and a pair of UNI errors. After the Panthers tied it right back up at 8-8, the Purple Aces took three more leads before Northern Iowa made its run.
With the score knotted at 11-11, the Panthers scored a pair and never looked back. Their largest advantage of five points came on a pair of occasions as they would hang on for the 25-20 win.
Seyller recorded another kill to open up set two, but that was the lone high point as UNI reeled off seven of the next nine points to go up 7-3. They kept up the momentum, cruising to a 25-13 win.
Evansville put up another early fight in the third game. An Ashley Ring kill gave UE an early 2-1 edge, but Northern Iowa would take control, opening up a 9-5 advantage. Brooke Maher notched a kill as the Aces closed back with a pair (9-7), but that would be as close as they would get as UNI would take the match with a 25-18 victory.
After a Tuesday match at Cincinnati, the Aces return home for three matches, including their MVC home opener on Friday against Creighton.
