EAST LANSING, Mich. – On Saturday, the Purple Aces men’s golf team will open up its fall season, traveling to East Lansing, Michigan to participate in the Fossum Invitational.
Play will get underway at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Forest Akers West. The teams will play 36 holes on day one followed by 18 holes on Sunday.
Head coach Jim Hamilton returns an experienced squad, which features five seniors and four juniors. Leading the way for UE is senior Michael Sainz. As a junior, Sainz led the team with a 74.16 stroke average, including an average of just 71.40 last fall. Sainz shot a 12-under 201 to win the Butler Invitational last October.
As a team, Evansville was extremely successful last season, winning the Butler Invitational and the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Among the 12 teams scheduled to participate are Michigan State, IUPUI, IPFW and Tennessee State.
