LEXINGTON, Ky. – Holding IUPUI shotless in the first half and to just three shots total on the night, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team recorded a 2-0 victory Friday in the first contest of the 2011 regular season and also the first match of the University of Kentucky Tournament. With the win, the Aces start the season 1-0-0, while IUPUI fell to 1-2-0.
“As our first game of the season, it was an outstanding gutty performance by the team,” said head coach

Evansville found the back of the net quickly, scoring the first goal of the night just four minutes into the match when senior
Aaron Henkle rebounded the ball and fired it into the far post side netting. Junior
Jesse Sharp and senior
Tad Kreamalmeyer were tagged with the assists.
Commanding the ball in the first half, Evansville outshot the Jaguars, 8-0, in the opening stanza and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Out of the locker rooms, the Aces scored again in the 62
nd minute when senior
Jarrett Robbins tallied his seventh career goal on a ball that bounced around the six-yard box. Robbins knocked it past diving goalkeeper Tyler Keever with help from sophomore
Brandon Causey.
Keever made two saves on the night, while UE keeper, freshman
Eric Teppen recorded the shutout and one save.
