EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a 2-0 victory at Missouri State, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team will look to stay perfect in league play when it travels to Peoria, Ill., for a 6:30 p.m. Homecoming contest with Bradley Saturday night.
Evansville (7-4-0, 1-0-0 MVC) got a pair of second-half goals from sophomore
Nick Schroeder in Wednesday’s nights win over the Bears in UE’s conference opener. After getting outshot, 10-4, in the first half, the Purple Aces turned the tables, as Schroeder scored his first goal in the early stages of the second stanza, finishing a shot from 20 yards out in the 52nd minute. Schroeder sealed the win in the 78th minute by heading home a 50-yard free kick service from
Brandon Causey. The shutout marked the sixth-straight time Evansville has been involved in a shutout, as it has won three.
Faik Hajderovic was kept off the score sheet in Springfield, Mo., but continues to lead the Aces with a league-best 13 points on four goals and five assists. With his two goals against MSU, Schroeder moved himself into a three-way tie for second on the squad with six points, as he pulled even with
Mark Anthony Gonzalez and
Dylan Terry. Goalkeeper
Eric Teppen made all four of his saves in the first half against the Bears to pick up his third clean sheet of his sophomore campaign. On the season, Teppen has posted a 1.37 goals against average with 46 saves in 983 minutes in goal.
Bradley (7-4-2, 1-1-0 MVC) opened league play with a 1-0 win at Missouri State last Saturday (Oct. 6), before falling to SIU Edwardsville, 4-1, Wednesday night in Edwardsville, Ill. The Braves have outscored opponents, 22-17, this season and have posted three shutouts. Keegan Balle leads BU with 13 points on five goals and three assists, while Jochen Graf has added 11 points on five goals and one assist. In addition to Balle and Graf, five other Bradley players have recorded multiple goals this season. Goalkeeper Brian Billings has played all put five minutes between the posts for the Braves, collecting 49 saves to go with a 1.26 goals against average and .742 save percentage.
The Aces trail Bradley, 11-8-1, in the all-time series, as the Braves have won the last two meetings. Last season, BU posted a 2-1 victory over UE at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
