OMAHA, Neb. – Kelli Browning led all players with 15 kills as Creighton picked up a 3-0 win over the University of Evansville volleyball team in Missouri Valley Conference action on Friday night.
Three Bluejays (19-3, 10-1 MVC) finished with double-digit kills as Leah McNary tallied 14 and Heather Thorson finished with 11. Leading the way for Evansville (8-17, 3-9 MVC) was
Ashley Ring, who had nine kills.
Katie Klages notched 23 assists while
Jenn Murphy led the Aces with 16 assists.
Creighton put forth its most dominating effort in the opening set, taking a 25-15 win. UE kept it close early on, but with the score tied at 5-5, the Bluejays scored the next four points before adding to their lead. They finished the game on a 20-10 run to earn the win.
Browning notched six kills to lead CU to a 25-19 victory in the second stanza. Evansville played tough at the start, but with Creighton up 14-12, they scored three of the next four points en route to the win.
McNary led the Bluejays with six kills as they finished off the sweep in the third game despite six kills by Ashley Ring. Creighton took the early advantage, but made their game-changing run when up 6-5, they reeled off three-consecutive points before turning that into a 10-3 run before finishing up with the 25-20 win to clinch the match.
The Bluejays hit .293 in the win while holding UE to .134. Browning hit .556 for Creighton while Meaghan Holmes posted a solid .333.
Tomorrow, UE will be right back in action as they head to Des Moines, Iowa for a 7 p.m. match versus Drake.
