EVANSVILLE, Ind. - For the second day in a row, Team Purple received a strong pitching effort and timely hitting to win the University of Evansville baseball team’s  best-of-three Fall World Series.  Freshman Philip Diehl threw four innings while striking out seven, walking one and giving up Team Black's only run, while sophomore catcher Kyle Pollock drove in the deciding tally.

Team Purple jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as sophomore Kyle Schwinghamer scored on a passed ball, after he reached on a hit by pitch earlier in the frame.  Team Black answered in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by freshman Alex Gould that plated fellow freshman Eric McKibban.  This ended up being Team Black's only run of the afternoon, as Diehl combined with freshman righty Brent Jurceka and senior southpaw Josh Biggs to shut down Team Black's offense.

Pollock drove in the game-winning run for Team Purple in the third inning, after junior Jake Mahon doubled to right off of sophomore starter Kyle Freeland.  Freshman Jonathan Ramon added an insurance run in the fifth off of sophomore Kyle Spencer with an RBI single that plated Schwinghamer for his second run of the day.

Jurceka was able to relieve Diehl with an inning-plus of work, striking out one and giving up a hit. Biggs picked up his second save in as many days, recording a strikeout in his two innings on the mound.

Schwinghamer, Mahon, Pollock, Ramon, junior Nick Hathcoat, and redshirt sophomore Zac Pfafman all had hits for Team Purple, while redshirts sophomore Kevin Kaczmarski led Team Black with two hits. Redshirt sophomore Michael Eckstein and McKibban also provided hits for Team Black.

Freeland ended the day by posting four strikeouts and allowed just two runs in 2 2/3 innings of work, while Spencer tossed four innings, struck out two and scattered four hits, and junior Peter Spear came on to get the final out in the top of the seventh inning.
