Volleyball Back For Final Three Home Matches

11/1/2012 9:28:00 AM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – This weekend, the University of Evansville volleyball team will begin its final home-stand of the season as they play the next three games at the Carson Center.

It all begins on Friday as the Aces play host to Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. at the Carson Center.

Evansville looks to halt a three-game slide as they welcome the Salukis to town.  Last weekend, UE fell in a pair of road matches at Creighton and Drake.  Last time out, it was senior Hannah Wilson who led the way with 13 kills and 14 digs.

Prior to that against the Bluejays, it was Ashley Ring who registered nine kills.  In both matches, it was Katie Klages leading the way in digs while Jenn Murphy tallied the most assists for UE.

The series between the Aces and Salukis has recently been dominated by the home teams.  Since the beginning of the 2007 season, the home teams are 11-0.  Prior to that in 2006, the road team won each contest.

Southern Illinois enters Friday’s game with an overall mark of 18-6 and 8-5 in the MVC.  With just three weekends of Valley play remaining, the Salukis are right in the middle of the pack and are looking to solidify their seeding in the tournament.

SIU poses a dual threat offensively as they have the top two leaders in kills in the Valley.  Laura Thole leads the MVC with 3.81 kills per set while teammate Alysia Mayes is just behind with 3.65.  Amy Drabant has been solid in feeding the ball to the duo as she leads the league with 11.78 assists per set.

Next weekend, Evansville will wrap up its home slate as it hosts Bradley on Friday, Nov. 9 before facing Northern Iowa on Senior Night a day later.
