EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It is hard to believe, but the 2012 volleyball season has just two more games left as the University of Evansville will wrap up play this weekend at Indiana State and Illinois State.

A 1-1 weekend in its home finale last time out put Evansville’s record at 9-20 and 4-12 in league play.  Ashley Ring has had a tremendous encore to her freshman season as she leads the Aces with 355 kills, a total that is in the top five in the Missouri Valley Conference.  She is also in the top five in the MVC in service aces.

Seniors Jessica Knackmuhs and Hannah Wilson played their final games at the Carson Center last weekend.  Limited due to injury this season, Knackmuhs saw action in the home finale against Northern Iowa, recording a dig.  Wilson, who is second on Evansville’s squad with 223 kills, has also gotten the job done on the defensive side, ranking third on the team with 233 digs.

Indiana State has struggled this season on its way to a 1-15 mark (3-23 overall).  The lone win for the Sycamores in league play came over Bradley on Sept. 21.  On Sept. 15, the Aces defeated them in five sets as Ring led the Aces with 19 kills.

The Redbirds have a chance to improve their standing for the league tournament this weekend.  ISU is tied with Missouri State for the No. 5 slot.  Illinois State is a game behind Southern Illinois and can enter the tournament ranked as high as fourth or as low as sixth.

Illinois State is solid defensively, ranking second in the MVC in opponent hitting, allowing the opposition to hit just .151 this year.  They are also fourth in the Valley in digs.
