ST. LOUIS – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team had nine players named to All-Missouri Valley Conference teams Thursday evening at the annual MVC awards banquet. Sophomore
Nick Schroeder earned All-MVC Second Team honors to highlight the selections for the Purple Aces.
Schroeder has recorded seven points for UE this season, scoring three goals and tallying an assist. Five of Schoreder’s points have come in Valley matches, which ties him for the team lead in league contests. In conference action, the Brighton, Mich., native has scored a pair of goals, dished out an assist and put seven of his nine shots on goal.
In addition to Schroeder’s honor, six other Aces received All-MVC Honorable Mention recognition. Freshman
Faik Hajderovic, who leads UE’s offensive with 15 points on five goals and five assists, was joined by senior captain
Jesse Sharp and sophomores
Patrick Hodges,
Charlie Macias,
Luis Romero and goalkeeper
Eric Teppen.
Sharp has scored three game-winners and has been credited with a pair of assists for eight points this season, which rank him third on the squad. Hodges, Macias, Romero and Teppen were key components on the defensive side of the ball for Evansville and part of a unit that posted five shutouts and held opponents to a 1.35 goal per game average. In league play, the Purple Aces defense allowed six goals in six Valley matches and recorded three shutouts.
Evansville also had three players named to the All-MVC Freshman Team. Hajderovic, along midfielder
Mark Anthony Gonzalez and forward
Nate Opperman were selected to the 11-player squad. Gonzalez has been the Aces’ second-leading scorer this season, as the Toronto, Canada native is tied for the team lead with five points and has been credited with an assist. In addition, Gonzalez is tied with Schroeder for the team lead in points in MVC matches. Opperman has found the back of the net three times this season, with all of them being game-winners, for his six points.
