AVON, Ind. – Freshman
Cathy Doyle shot an 80 on Tuesday finishing second overall while leading the University of Evansville women’s golf team to a second place finish at the Butler Invitational.
Doyle, who led after round one, notched an 80 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 155, just two strokes behind Michele Nash of Butler, who took medalist honors. Julia Porter of Butler finished third as the Bulldogs took four of the top five spots en route to the team championship.
Lauren Ellerman tied for 12
th place with a score of 168 after carding an 83 on Tuesday.
Sydney Skiles came home 19
th with a 173 while
Alyssa Key tied for 21
st with a 175.
Dana Hayden came in 36
th place after shooting a 192. A pair of Aces played as singles as
Chelsea Zusan tied for 28
th with a 180 while
Kelly Lamarche notched a 188.
After leading by 18 shots after Monday’s opening round, Butler extended its lead on day two, winning the tournament by 32 strokes over Evansville. The Bulldogs shot a 639 while UE finished with a 671. Eastern Washington took third place with a 674.
Next Monday, the women will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the Belmont Invitational.
