EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A pair of University of Evansville student-athletes were named the recipients of the Ralph H. Coleman and Lois D. Patton Scholar-Athlete Awards at the UE Leadership Awards Reception last week.

Colin Gray won the Coleman Award while volleyball player
Ellen Sawin picked up the Patton Award. The awards are given to the top senior scholar athletes and are based 50% on academic achievement, 25% on athletic success and 25% on service to the campus and/or community. The winners are voted on by the Aces head coaches and the athletic administration.
Sawin, a Visual Communications Design major, has posted a 3.604 GPA at UE. She finished her career with 3,877 assists, second most all time. She was named to a pair of all-tournament teams while garnering MVC Player of the Week and Newcomer/All-Freshman Team honors in 2008.
Off the court, Sawin has been extremely active in the community. She is currently the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is also the MVC SAAC representative. Sawin was honored with the State Farm Good Neighbor Award while serving on UE President Dr. Kazee’s Strategic Planning Committee.
Colin Gray has accumulated a 4.0 GPA as a Mathematics-Actuarial Science major. Since his arrival at UE, he has been extremely successful. He has posted the top time for the Aces in the 200 breaststroke in each of the last four years while recording the top times in the 100 breaststroke in each of the last three years.
Gray has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large First Team on two occasions and has made the at-large third team twice. The two-time All-MAC swimmer was named an at-large first-team swimmer by ESPN The Magazine.
