EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville head women’s volleyball coach
Mike Swan has announced the hiring of Dean Torgerson as an assistant coach with the Aces.
“I’m looking forward to working with Dean. He brings a lot of experience to our staff, having coached at several levels,” Swan said. “His skills as a setter and hitter will be very beneficial to our players. I know they will really enjoy his personality and his desire to make us better on the court.”
Torgerson comes to Evansville from Arkansas State where he spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach. In his one season with the team, he led the Red Wolves to a 21-win season while claiming the Sun Belt Conference’s Western Division title while having three players named to the All-Conference squad.
Prior to his time at Arkansas State, Torgerson did all of his work in the Midwest. He spent two seasons working with the Northshore Assault Volleyball Club in Evanston, Ill., serving as the head coach for the 15-1s team and the 14-1s team for a season apiece.
During his work in Evanston, he also spent time in nearby Racine, Wis. at William Horlick High School, working as an assistant coach for both the boy’s and girl’s teams.
A 2010 graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, Torgerson was a player/coach on the men’s club volleyball team in all four of his years there while spending two seasons working as a coach on the women’s volleyball club team.
Torgerson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Sports Management from Loyola before working towards his Master’s from Arkansas State. His graduation from ASU is set for August where he has accumulated a perfect 4.0 GPA thus far. In 2005, he was named to the Fab 50 list by Volleyball Magazine as one of the top senior players in the country.
