EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With a young, enthusiastic squad in hand, University of Evansville golf coach
Jim Hamilton and the Purple Aces will open up their fall season on Monday as they travel to the John Piper Intercollegiate, which is being held in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The event, which is being hosted by Bowling Green State University, will feature nine other schools aside from UE include: Ashland, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Mount Union, Oakland, Valparaiso, Wisconsin Green Bay, Wright State and Youngstown State.
Stoneridge Golf Club in Bowling Green will host the event. It is a par 72 course that is 7,064 yards long.
Evansville will put a young team on the course this season that will feature five freshmen including:
Juan Acosta, Wililam Knights,
David Schroeder, Alexander Turner and Richard Voyvodic.
With the departure of seniors Andrew Luo, Michael Sainz and Griffin Wood, several players will be depended upon to fill the void. The top two returning players for UE will be juniors
Parker Hensley and
Quinn Vilneff.
Vilneff averaged 75.93 strokes per round last season and registered a pair of sub-70 rounds. His season low of 67 came at the SIUE Intercollegiate last season while his top finish was eighth at the Dayton Invitational. Hensley was just behind with an average of 76.15.
