9/17/2012 5:06:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Tuesday, the University of Evansville volleyball team will take to the floor for its final non-conference match of the season as it travels to SIU Edwardsville on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

The Purple Aces are coming off of their opening weekend for Missouri Valley Conference play.  After falling to Illinois State in Friday’s opener, Evansville fought back for an exciting 5-set win over Indiana State on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Ashley Ring, who sits atop the MVC in kills, averaged 19.3 per match over the last week for UE.  She put forth the top performance of her career against Belmont as she finished the night with 28 kills, just four shy of the UE single match record.  On the defensive side, she also got the job done as she averaged 12.7 digs in the Aces' three matches.

Another sophomore for Evansville has made her push up the Valley stat list over the last week.  Lawrence, Kan. native Meaghan Holmes notched 16 total blocks in the three matches last week to move up to seventh in the league.  Her top effort of the week came in the win over Indiana State as she tallied seven block assists and one solo block to help UE to the victory.

Hannah Wilson is making the most of her senior campaign at UE and has come on in a strong way over the last three matches.  Wilson has posted 35 digs and 35 kills over that span.  Her 35 kill tally is second behind only Ashley Ring.  Wilson's play has been pivotal to the Aces as her 14-kill performance against the Sycamores helped UE to a much needed victory.

The Cougars of SIUE enter play on Tuesday with a record of 4-6.  Two weeks ago, they played in the University of Akron’s tournament where they won one match and lost two before falling in a home match versus Northern Illinois on Friday.

SIUE is led by freshman Kristen Torre, who leads the Ohio Valley Conference in hitting.  Her .375 performance in 2012 is over 60 points better than second place Rachel Ambroch of Tennessee State.

This weekend, Evansville will take to the road for the first time in Valley play as they make their way to Wichita State on Friday prior to facing off against Missouri State on Saturday.  Friday’s match will begin at 7 p.m. while the match against the Bears will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
