EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After suffering its first loss of the season Saturday at St. Louis, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team will be looking to get back in the win column Wednesday night in Indianapolis, as the Purple Aces will take on host Butler at 6 p.m.
In Saturday’s setback to the Billikens,
Brandon Causey provided an equalizing goal in the 35th minute after SLU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. However, St. Louis would go on to score three unanswered goals in the second half and post a 4-1 win. Faik Hajderovic provided an assist on Causey’s goal for his fourth assist of the year.
Hajderovic leads the Purple Aces (4-1-0) offense with six points on a team-best four assists and one goal. The freshman forward has tallied a point in four of Evansville’s five matches this season, including a three-point effort in a win over Cincinnati.
Nate Opperman and
Jesse Sharp are tied for the team lead with a pair of goals, while five other Aces have hit the back of the net in 2012.
Eric Teppen has played all 480 minutes in goal for UE and boasts a 1.57 goals against average with 20 saves and a .714 save percentage.
Butler (1-1-4) earned a pair of ties last weekend at The University of Akron Tournament in Akron, Ohio, drawing South Florida, 2-2, prior to posting a 1-1 tie with St. John’s. The Bulldogs’ only win this season was a 2-0 victory over IUPUI, while their lone defeat was 2-1 loss to Central Arkansas.
Jeff Adkins leads BU with five points on two goals and an assist, while Brandon Fricke and Adam Glanzer are tied for second on the team with four points apiece. Jon Dawson has logged all 620 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and has allowed just six goals in as many games for a 0.87 goals against average. On the season, Dawson has recorded 25 saves and posted a .806 save percentage.
Evansville will return to Arad McCutchan Stadium for a pair of matches following Wednesday’s tilt in Indianapolis. The Aces will host Kentucky Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m., and Oral Roberts Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m.
