INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team was shut out for the first time this season Wednesday night in Indianapolis, as host Butler posted a 3-0 win over the Purple Aces at the Butler Bowl.
For the second-straight game, the Purple Aces were forced to play from behind after conceding an early goal. Butler took an early 1-0 advantage in the fourth after Adam Glanzer finished off a pair of passes from Tyler Pollock and Caleb Postlewait for his third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 2-0 in 29th minute on a goal by Jordan Burt off a corner kick. Burt headed home a cross from Jeff Adkins on BU’s second set piece chance of the evening. Butler took the two-goal lead into the break and outshot UE 9-3 over the first 45 minutes.
Midway through the second half, Zach Steinberger tacked on an insurance goal for the Bulldogs to increase the margin to 3-0. Steinberger finished a crossing pass from Mitch Ostrowski in the 62nd minute for his first tally of the year.
Evansville had seven players combine to take its eight shots, with
Faik Hajderovic being the only Purple Ace to record multiple attempts. UE only challenged Butler goalkeeper Jon Dawson three times, while the Bulldogs fired 16 shots and put 10 on frame. Evansville keeper
Eric Teppen turned away a season-high seven shots and has made 13 saves over his last two outings.
The Purple Aces will return to Arad McCutchan Stadium for their next two matches, as they will host Kentucky Saturday at 7 p.m., before welcoming Oral Roberts Sunday, Sept. 30, for a 2 p.m. match.
