Volleyball Returns To Carson Center For Weekend Matches

9/27/2012 2:17:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following its first Missouri Valley road trip of the season, the University of Evansville volleyball team returns to the Carson Center this weekend to square off against Drake and Creighton.

The action is slated to begin on Friday at 7 p.m. versus Drake before Creighton comes to town on Saturday for a 5 p.m. match.

Evansville (5-11, 1-3 MVC) had a two-match winning streak halted last weekend in a pair of road losses at Wichita State and Missouri State.  Sophomore Ashley Ring remains atop the MVC in kills, averaging 3.82 per set.   Ring has stayed close to that pace in league play, averaging 3.64 per set in UE’s four league matches thus far.

Another Ace who has been strong since the start of the season has been junior Katie Klages.  The libero stands second in the league with 5.11 digs per set.  She is just behind Bailey Yeager of SIU’s total of 5.46.

Friday’s action will begin against MVC rival Drake.  The Bulldogs have struggled to a 1-12 mark overall while falling in all three conference matches thus far.   They picked up their first victory of their year on Sept. 21 in a road contest at Nebraska Omaha.

The Aces go from one extreme to the other this weekend as they welcome Creighton on Saturday.  The Bluejays are one of just two squads who are undefeated in the Valley.  Northern Iowa also enters the weekend with a 3-0 mark.  Creighton begins the weekend as the most efficient offensive team in the league as their hitting percentage of .257 sits just .01 ahead of Wichita State and Southern Illinois.

On Tuesday, UE will home once again, squaring off versus UT Martin at 6 p.m.
