Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Purple Aces volleyball team put up a strong effort in their attempt to rally from an 0-2 deficit, but UNI proved to be too much as the Panthers took a 3-0 victory over the Aces on Friday night at the Carson Center.

Ashley Ring posted a team-high six kills for Evansville (6-12, 1-6 MVC) and also tallied 10 digs.  Katie Klages led UE with 11 digs.  Macy Ubben and Leigh Pudwill led the Panthers (13-5, 5-1 MVC) with 12 kills apiece.  Kinsey Caldwell posted 36 assists and 13 digs.  Amie Held led all players with 21 digs.

The Panthers rolled early in game one, jumping out to a quick 11-1 lead as Ubben recorded three early kills while finishing with seven in the set.  A Ring kill ended the run before she finished with three for the set.  The Aces got as close as nine tallies at 16-7, but UNI proved to be too much, hitting .517 on their way to a 25-10 win.

UNI tallied the opening two points of the second frame before Evansville scored a pair to tie it back up.  The Panthers retook the lead and went up 8-3 before a 4-1 stretch saw Evansville get back within a pair at 9-7 on a pair of Panther errors.  That would be as close as UE would get as UNI scored the next six points en route to a 25-15 win.  Leading UNI in the frame was Pudwill, who had six kills.

Behind a solo block by Meaghan Holmes, the Aces scored the opening two points 4-1 before the Panthers fought back to tie it up at 6-6.  From there, the Aces began to take control of the game.  Two kills by Ashley Ring helped Evansville grow an advantage of 14-10 before reaching five at 17-12 on a double block by Lauren Seyller and Rachel TenHoor.

After the Aces took their largest edge, UNI came right back with five in a row to tie it up at 17-17.  A Seyller kill ended the rally and put UE back on top, but the Panthers had an answer as Kinsey Caldwell found an open space in the Aces defense and recorded a kill to give them a 19-18 lead.  They would hang on from there, taking a 25-21 win.

Tomorrow, UE will be back in action at the Carson Center, taking on Drake in a 6 p.m. match.
