Things got off to a great start for Evansville as they reeled off the first five points of the evening as Holmes supplied two kills in the run. Bradley fought back in a quick manner, tying the game up at 6-6. Six ties led to a 14-14 score. That is where the tide turned Bradley's way as they notched three in a row, including a Melissa Hoerber service ace. UE cut the BU lead to just one at 17-16 before the Braves extended their advantage to win by a 25-20 final.
Game two was almost a mirror image of the first, though the teams switched their roles. It was Bradley jumping out to the early lead, notching the opening four points. Evansville slowly clawed its way back, tying the frame up for the first time at 15-15 on a Brave error. With the score knotted at 16-16, the Aces scored two in a row, led by an
Emma Roberson kill, before taking a 25-21 triumph.
Another early run opened up the third frame as the Braves got off to a quick start. Unlike the previous two sets, BU saw that lead finish with a win. Evansville would tie the set up at 12-12 for the first time, but a 4-0 run by the Braves gave them the lead for good as they finished off a 25-19 win.
With their backs against the walls, the Aces bounced back from their 2-1 deficit to earn their first MVC road win of the season. They did it in impressive fashion, opening up a 4-1 advantage and leading for majority of the match. Ring registered seven kills while hitting .538 in the game while tying up the overall match at 2-2.
That win did not come that easy, though, as Bradley fought back from a 4-point deficit to tie the game up at 20-20. With the result in jeopardy, the Aces stood tall, forcing three BU errors while finishing up on a 5-1 run to force a deciding game.
Cerino and Holmes recorded kills to open up the final set before the Braves came back to take a 6-4 lead as Tupuritis notched three early kills. Later, a Lea Sack serve got through the Aces defense, giving BU a 12-10 lead. Following a timeout by head coach Manolo Concepcion, UE focused its efforts on the win. Seyller notched a kill out of the break before a Bradley error tied it up at 12-12. From there, it was Cerino bringing it home with a pair of late kills to seal the match with a 15-13 win.
Tomorrow evening, the Aces make the quick trip from Peoria to Chicago where they are set to take on Loyola beginning at 7 p.m.
