Evansville Golf Teams Travel To Butler Fall Invitational

10/4/2013 12:06:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the first time this season, the Purple Aces golf teams will each play in the same tournament as they travel to the Butler Fall Invitational set for Monday and Tuesday.

Highland Country Club in Indianapolis will play host to the event, which features 54 holes of play for the men and 36 holes for the women.  The Evansville men are one of five teams playing, joining Butler, Bradley, IUPUI and Eastern Illinois.  The women's field consists of Green Bay, Indiana State, Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso, IUPUI, UIC, Loyola, Purdue and Butler.

The last action for the women came two weeks ago at the SIUE Intercollegiate and it was freshman Kayla Katterhenry leading the way once again.  Katterhenry recorded her second third-place tie in as many tries on her way to her second Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week award.

Another freshman, Maggie Camp, was the No. 2 finisher for the Aces at SIUE.  Camp tied for 17th place with a 165 while Paige Crafton and Cathy Doyle each registered scores of 167 to tie for 23rd overall.  Those efforts helped Evansville tie for fifth place in the event.

Evansville's men were on the course earlier this week at the Cleveland State Invitational.  The squad rallied on the final day to finish in a tie for third place in a contest that saw 13 teams participate.  Leading the way was senior Quinn Vilneff.  The native of Amherstburg, Ontario posted the lowest round of the day by any player with his 5-under 67 on Tuesday.  The final round effort resulted in a fifth place finish.

Sophomore Alex Turner tied for 17th as his total for the three rounds of play was a 217.  Turner also finished under par on the final day, firing a 69 to improve by 13 spots in the standings on the last day.  Parker Hensley finished the tournament five shots behind Turner with a 22.  He shot an even 72 in the third round.

A shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET begins each day as the men will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday while the women are set for 18 holes in both days of the tournament.
