EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In their final event of the fall, the University of Evansville men's golf team travels to Sapphire, N.C. to play in the Hummingbird Intercollegiate.
Country Club of Sapphire Valley will play host to the tournament, which will feature 54 holes of play with 18 holes taking place from Nov. 3-5. Par at the course will be 71 with a total yardage of 6,767. Ten teams are set to participate include: Appalachian State, Belmont, Cardinal Stritch, Colgate, Evansville, Gardner-Webb, Samford, Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina and Wofford.
The Catamounts of WCU are hosting the event, which marks the seventh season in a row that the school has hosted a men's event at the course.
Alex Turner shot an even 70 in the final round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational to complete the event in a tie for second place at NCR Country Club. Turner fired the low round of the day for the Purple Aces as he followed up his Monday score of 69 with an even 70 on Tuesday. He tied for second place, just three strokes off of Andrew Bailey's winning pace.
Also bringing home a top ten finish was senior
Quinn Vilneff. After his opening day round of 68, Vilneff finished Tuesday's round with a 76 on his way to a 144 and a ninth-place tie. Another senior,
Parker Hensley, shot a 2-over 72 to card a 146 and tie for 20th.
Coming in a tie for 76th was sophomore
Will Knights. The native of New Lenox, Ill. improved by six strokes on the second day, shooting a 75 to finish with a 156. Finishing with a 160 was fellow sophomore
Rick Voyvodic as his tally gave him a tie for 89th. Freshman
Jon Pick had the strongest outing of his young career, totaling a 149 for the contest to tie for 39th. He shot rounds of 73 and 76, respectively.
