Aces’ Season Ends in Heartbreaking Loss in MVC Quarterfinals

PEORIA, Ill. –
For the second-straight match, Bradley defeated the University of Evansville men's soccer team in double overtime, but this time it ended the Purple Aces' season, as the Braves eliminated UE in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship with a 3-2 win on Cody Lofgren's game-winner in the 102nd minute.
 
In a match that saw a combined 58 shots, Evansville (10-8-1) scored both of its goals in the second half, as sophomore Faik Hajderovic found of the back of the net in the 58th minute on an assist by junior Charlie Macias and junior Dylan Terry scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute for his sixth tally of the year.
 
Bradley (11-6-2) advanced to Friday's semifinal round by scoring all three of its goals on counter attacks, as Christian Okeke gave the host Braves a 1-0 advantage less than one minute into the contest.  Okeke placed a shot into the upper part of the net from 18 yards out following a pass from Alon Badat and a flick on by Wojciech Wojcik.
 
Despite outshooting BU, 11-9, in the opening 45 minutes, the Aces were unable to find the equalizer as Bradley keeper Brian Billings recorded four of his 13 saves in the first half.
 
UE applied pressure to start the second stanza and eventually got a shot by Billings in the 58th minute, when Hajderovic made a quick turn at the top of the box and placed a shot inside the right post to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Just over five and a half minutes later, Evansville grabbed the lead, when Terry was able to get by a pair of Bradley defenders and slip a shot into the back of the net from six yards out.
 
Okeke scored his second goal of the night in the 82nd minute to knot the match at 2-1, as he made a run down the right wing and finished a pair of passes from Grant Bell and Wojcik with a shot inside the far the post from just inside the box.
 
With the score tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the match headed to overtime, where the Aces outshot the Braves, 7-2, in the first extra period, but managed to only put one shot on frame.
 
BU earned the win in the second overtime period, when Lofgren scored off of yet another Bradley counter.  Zach Kovacevic started the chance with a pass to Wojcik, who played a long ball over the top of the UE defense and found Lofgren on the left wing.  Lofgren then proceeded to beat Evansville goalkeeper Eric Teppen, who came racing off of his line, to the ball and simply chipped it over Teppen from about 25 yards out for the game-winner.
 
Evansville attempted a season-high 36 shots in the defeat and was led by Hajderovic, who fired a career-high 11 shots and put seven of them on frame.  Terry added five shot attempts, while eight other Aces were credited with multiple shot attempts.  In goal, Teppen made five saves, including three in the first half.
