CARBONDALE, Ill. – The University of Evansville women’s swimming and diving team stands in fourth place following the opening day of the MVC Championship, which is being hosted by Southern Illinois.
Missouri State holds the edge over Illinois State, 251-220 while SIU is third and the Purple Aces stand in fourth place at 162.
Michelle Tipton posted a strong effort on Thursday, taking third place in the 500 Yard Freestyle. She posted a time of 4:52.38.
In the 50 Yard Freestyle, the Aces took two of the top three spots, led by
Michea Reinitz, who took second place with a time of 23.58. Just behind her was
Abby Smith, who finished the race in 23.61.
Evansville came home in third place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay as the team of
Taylor Shotwell,
Jill Enge, Reinitz and Tipton finished in 3:49.46, just five seconds off of the winning pace. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, UE tallied another third place as Smith,
Samantha Montgomery, Tipton and Reinitz finished with a 1:34.02, less than a second off of top-finishing SIU.
In the 1 Meter Diving event, it was senior Sadie Wells taking 4
th place honors with a score of 277.40.
Conference action continues on Friday as the following events will take place: 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, 400 Yard IM, 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, 100 Yard Backstroke, 3 Meter Diving and the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay.
