Vilneff Leads UE To 5th Place At Bobby Nichols

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – 
Quinn Vilneff tied for third place as the Purple Aces men’s golf team registered a fifth place finish on Tuesday at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
 
Vilneff was tied for the lead with a 3-under 69 following the first round of play before tallying a 77 en route to a 146.  He finished three off of the win.
 
Will Knights recorded a 155 to tie for 33rd as he posted rounds of 77 and 78.  Freshmen Alex Turner and Rick Voyvodic tied for 38th with a 156 while Parker Hensley carded a 160 to tie for 46th place. 
 
Evansville was tied for the lead following round one after shooting a tournament-low 295, but a 318 in round two pushed the Aces into fifth place.  UT Martin rallied from a two-stroke deficit to finish with the win.  The Skyhawks posted rounds of 297 and 296 to defeat Newberry College and Eastern Kentucky by ten.
 
Northern Kentucky placed third while UE took fifth.  The University of Tennessee had four players participating as individuals, posting four of the top eight spots led by Brandon Rodgers, who took medalist honors with a 143.  Ben Reeves of UTM finished a stroke behind with a 144 while Vilneff tied Taylor Riggs of EKU for third.
 
Next up for the Aces is a trip to the Indiana Invitational on April 6 and 7 in Bloomington, Ind.
